President's Day, Long O, and Rocks and Soil

Welcome back on track!  We had Monday off due to the President's Day holiday.  We read a fun book to help us know what it would be like to be the president.  Then we wrote what we would do if we were the president and drew pictures of ourselves being the Commander in Chief.  I hope you got to see their ideas, I was laughing reading them.  :)  This week we worked on the long o and long u sounds.  We spelled long o words with Cheerios and had a great time.  We also learned about adding the -y and -ful suffixes to words.  In math, we worked on solving equations and story problems with totals in the teens.  For science, we enjoyed studying about rocks and soil and learning all about what they are, where they come from, and how we use them.  The kids loved investigating the rocks and samples they brought in to share with the class, so thank you!  At the end of the week, we made pet rocks with our 4th grade buddies.  Each one was unique and fun!  Enjoy the pictures!
