Apples!

This week we did lots of activities about apples!

The kids thought this song was hilarious and I promised to put it on the blog, so they could listen to it at home:

We learned how to spell and read the word apple.

We learned what an informational book is and wrote facts about apples.

We read "Ten Apples Up on Top" and practiced writing our numbers 1-10.

We taste tested apples, graphed our results, and wrote about our favorite color of apple.

We learned about positional words, (above, below, beside, etc.) this week in math.

And we had lots of great apple-themed centers to review and practice things we have already learned!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

This week we had a great time doing activities centered around the book, "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!"

We went on a hunt for the alphabet around the school.  At the end of our hunt a surprise was waiting for us in our classroom.  We got to make and eat our own coconut tress!

Some shared writing...we filled in the letters and found the word "the."

And here are the centers and activities we did with the theme this week:

In math, we learned all about the four basic shapes.  We read books about shapes, thought of things in real life that were certain shapes, ate snacks that were the shapes, and hunted for them.  We also practiced drawing them, sorting them, and making them out of playdough!

Here are some fun songs to help your child at home:

David Goes to School

This week was a short week and also our first time back on track after a long break, so we reviewed routines and procedures and also discussed rules again.  We read the book, "David Goes to School" and learned that we did NOT want any Davids in our classroom!  We learned how to draw David and wrote some rules for him to follow as a whole class and individually.

We also did some fun centers!

In computers, we played a fun game that helps us learn how to use a mouse.  You can play this game at home too!  Just click HERE.

We have also been using a really great app to help us with our handwriting.  The kids really enjoy it and it's only $2.99.  Totally worth it!  So if you have a device that can use apps, I highly recommend it!  It's called Letter School and can be found HERE.

I can't wait for this coming week...we will be having a lot of fun learning many new things!
