OInks and CowbOYs, Telling Time, and Solid/Liquid/Gas

This week we learned about the OI and OY sounds.  On Monday, we made pig snouts and oinked around the room while finding words with OI and writing them on our pig noses.  After we were done, we wrote stories about a pig using as many OI words as we could.  On Tuesday, we made cowboy hats and wrote words with the OY sounds on our hats.  Then we wrote a cowboy story and had a lot of fun using our imaginations.  We finished up our fun writing on Wednesday by writing a make-believe story about a pig, a cowboy, and a magic coin.  In math, we started a unit on time.  We talked about time in our day and made a class book of the story, "The Grouchy Ladybug."  We also did some fun activities to tell time to the hour and half hour.  The kids are getting pretty good at it!  Science was the best part of our week!  We learned all about solids, liquids, and gases.  We did lots of experiments and investigations.  We looked at balloons that had ice, water, and air in them.  We cooked ice cubes and watched them change from solid to liquid to gas...and then disappear!  We also had a solid, liquid, and gas treat and made root beer floats!  We finished up our week with PINK day to support our custodian Mike and his wife in her battle against breast cancer.  Enjoy the pictures!
