Lights, Camera...ACTION! Field Day

Here are some fun pictures of our field day today!  Each station was based on a movie.

DESPICABLE ME - Minions used the parachute to try to return the moon...and were rewarded with Otter Pops.  :)

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN - We passed water with a sponge to fill a bucket for the pirates to "swab the deck"

KUNG FU PANDA - We were like the Dragon Warrior and learned some karate moves!

 UP - We helped other people "land" by popping their balloons while we tried to stay "afloat" and kept our own balloons safe!

MADAGASCAR - We prepared for the circus by practicing on the balance beam and doing other tricks.

 BRAVE - We practiced our archery skills by throwing noodle arrows through target hoops.

Summer Fun

I can't believe our kindergarten year is winding down and coming to an end!  Last week was our final "normal" week of the school year and we had a lot of fun!

In math, we used real seashells to practice our addition facts.

We also made a summer "bucket list" and sprinkled sand on it!

The kids wrote a few things they would like to make sure to do this summer on their list.

Thursday we had a great time when we found a red bag in our reading center.  Inside was a note from a pet shop owner saying a witch stole his animals and put a spell on them that made them get trapped inside of tiny capsules.  The only way to break the spell was to put them in warm water.

So we did just that and we set the animals free!  Each person had a different animal and it was so fun to watch and see what appeared out of each capsule.

The last part of the note said we could keep the animals, but only if we wrote a letter telling the pet shop owner we found the capsules and let him know how we would take care of his animals.

The kids wrote a ton and loved the activity!

We visited the 4th grade wax museum this week!  There were a few of us with siblings there!

 Sorting ice cream scoops by the vowel sound

 Hunting around the room for "Sunny Sums"

 Finding sight words in a book about summer

 Rolling a beach ball and writing words that started with that sound

 Unscrambling sight words we found on sharks

 Writing sight words and sounding out ocean and summer words

 Sorting beach balls by their vowel sound and writing the words

 Practicing ten friends using turtles and crabs on a ten frame

 Collecting and counting seashells

 Writing sentences about summer words

 Playing letter school on the iPads!

 Stamping CVC words we found on shells

 Hunting around the room for summer and beach words

 Writing poems about summer

 Measuring sea creatures using cubes

Sorting words on seashells by the number of syllables

 Practicing subtraction using fish

 Writing word wall words we found on seashells in the "sand"

 Writing sentences using a word wall word we found on a sea creature

 Adding up sea creatures on pictures found around the room

Tate and Maeby were our last two star students of the year!  We enjoyed learning more about them and seeing their special things!
